Description

Although not native to Australia, there are enough white, or mute swans to justify their inclusion. Started as a companion piece to Odile, she became a painting in her own right, so it seemed fitting to give her her own name. This piece is called Swan Song, not because it is my last painting ever (I hope) but it is the last piece I painted with this particular exhibition in mind. The vase/urn is a Josiah Wedgwood Samson and Delilah Swan Vase, which is housed in the Art Gallery of South Australia. It is also a Swan Song, because the swan featured is also known as a mute swan, and there is an opera of Samson and Delilah by Camille Saint-Saƫns. This original watercolour is painted on handmade Imperial size 100% cotton rag paper sourced from Tasmania. This painting was featured in my Ginger and Honey exhibition held at Michael Reid Sydney in 2019.
